The First Three Weeks Have Flown By....

The first three weeks of school have flown by for me....
I am busy thinking of ways that I can use the blog in the classroom.  I think I might have my students blog about their experiences in the Relay for Life when we get going with that.

If you are a student and you've signed up to follow this blog, remind me in class...if you are a sixth grader, I can give you REVO, if you are a seventh grader, we can think of something else.

Maybe I need to start bringing in my camera so that I can take pics of things we are doing in class.....

Technology

Well, I have been using my Labor Day morning working on a wiki for my 7th grade classes.  Frustrating is the name of the game.  Making the page look just right is frustrating when the technological tools don't do what you want them to do!

The web address of the wiki page for 7th grade is http://socstrobious.wikispaces.com/

Here's a video of America the Beautiful...A good way to begin the year, plus I get to practice how to do it!

The Final Sunday.....

Well, the final Sunday is here...
The final Sunday of not having to get ready for school the next day...
The final Sunday of not having to have all of the laundry done...
Oh where has the summer gone?
Looking back on the summer, I have to say that it was a restful one.  Despite a hectic trip to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and London, I did manage to have some much needed down time this summer.  I got to visit with my mom in upstate New York, and I enjoyed being able to follow my own clock...

My son is going to be moving to California soon.  He was home this summer, and fortunately I got to spend some time with him.  They grow up too fast!

Students,
I hope you all had great summers.  I am looking forward to meeting you all!  And to my seventh graders...it's me again!

6th and 7th Grade Objectives for the first week of school

6th grade objectives
We will begin this week with a unit on geography.  You will be reviewing oceans and continents as well as beginning to learn about the 8 geographic regions of North America.  Yes, geography can be boring....but I'll try to spice it up a little.  We are entered into the National Geography Bee so we'll be spending some time over the next few months developing our geography skills.  Check the agenda board in the classroom for your daily homework.

7th grade objectives
In seventh grade, we'll begin by reviewing some of the material we learned last year.  We will be beginning a unit on Reconstruction, which is post-Civil War America.  You will also be studying in class for a 50 states and capitals quiz...yes again.

My dog Kali, after the snow last winter
I am excited to see everyone again in my seventh grade class.  I think you'll like social studies this year as we work our way through the Civil War into modern times.

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back everyone.  I am going to try my hand at blogging this year.  It is always good to try new things.  If I like the blog format, I may use it in addition to edline to keep you all posted of what is going on in the classroom.

The photo at the left is my desk.  You are probably asking yourself this question, "Why would someone take a photo of their desk?"
I took this photo on the Friday before school begins.  It will never be this neat again, and I wanted to remember it...!
